Leadership Team Post

I’ve been attending EYMC since 6th grade. This year will by my 10th year coming to camp. I am now a member of the leadership team, which is a group of 18-20 year olds who want to learn how to build leadership skills and grow as individuals.

As an LT, I work with the campers and camp staff to provide energy and fun throughout the week. Anything from playing in the band/orchestra to doing ridiculously hilarious dances at morning worship. LT brings many different challenges to my personal table. God brings me through all of these challenges and beyond.

My experiences as an LT member have taught me way more than I could ever write down in a timely fashion so I will talk about the main lesson I got out of LT: Creativity.

I like to think of myself as an inherently creative person, but the daily regimen of caring for campers emotional and spiritual needs opened my eyes to how many different kinds of people exist in this world.

No day is ever the same, just like no camper is the same. Each guitar lesson I teach, or each campfire I lead, I take away something very special. I can love and respect each type of human being.

The end of my LT career is after this week (I am 21), and that brings sadness to my heart. I know, however, that the lessons I’ve learned from campers and staff alike will guide me through ANYTHING thrown my way, and I have grown so much in so many ways. I can’t wait to see how this community grows and adapts to the world around it.
